a mightly ocean or a gentle kiss

Hello my muses,

Welcome to the first post of the year! Parts of this post was written throughout January when I was in Vietnam (see purple text) but I will be adding more now that I am home to fully encompass this very eventful first month of the year. 

2025 is off to a pretty interesting start. My family and I watched the fireworks by the beach and now we are overseas in Vietnam! The flight was pretty bad because I got food poisoning beforehand and spent the whole ride in insane stomach pain. I’m all better now so I can fully enjoy this holiday. We’ve already visited so many places and a lot of our distant relatives. I love learning about their stories and how we are somehow connected. My great great aunt has this picture in her bedroom of when she was 17 years old and it looks so much like me. Or I guess I look so much like her? It was actually kinda insane and very surreal. Later this month, we will be celebrating Lunar New Year which I’m very excited for!

Sometimes I wish I grew up in Vietnam because I could learn so much more about my culture and be closer to all my family members there. But alas, I'm back home now and back to my normal life. I had my first day of school today and honestly I don't know how I survived seeing as I am very sleep deprived from the long and excruciating travel day yesterday. And as anxious as I was about starting year 12 (especially with all the work that kinda piled up while I was away), today went really well! I got to see all my friends again and fall back into a routine I was very familiar with. Now that I'm thinking about it... I'm so pleased with how today went. When I was on the plane ride home I was worrying about all the unfinished things I had to do and it was stressing me outttt. Now that the day is over with everything completed, I'm feeling a little... proud??? of myself?? Well that's a first. 

There are a lot of things happening this year with it being our last and I'm looking forward to it! I know this year is going to fly by so I'm gonna try and document it here as much as possible.

goodbye sixteen

Salutations my beloved muses,  I’m back with another post because I’m just brimming with ideas ;D I was listening to ‘The Exit’ by Conan Gray, an artist I really love, and I always come back to this song because 1) it’s really good, 2) Superache, the album it’s on, is one of my all time favourite albums, and 3) there is a line in the beginning of the song that goes “mid November, and I’m sippin’ on a half cold coffee starin’ at a girl who’s not me on your arm, a carbon copy.” This line sticks out to me not only because of the beautiful songwriting but also because my birthday is in mid November. It’s on the 14th (tomorrow!!) which isn’t exactly the middle but close enough. Because of this, I interpret the line as “staring at a girl who’s not me” (the girl I was one year ago), “a carbon copy” (she’s still me, just with one less year of experience). Obviously this isn’t the intended meaning of the line when it was written but it’s quite beautiful how people can perceive the same thin...
